TRAINING & ASSESSMENT

Training for success Training for success Training for success Training for success Training for success

Gas Certification Company Limited offers a range of courses varying from those designed to provide industry recognised qualifications to safety awareness courses for the non-technical amongst us. Please refer to each individual page for details of the courses available.

Training & Assessment Leading to CORGI registration

The training part of the courses is styled as refresher training and is therefore geared towards those with experience in the gas industry. This does not mean that it is only suitable for time served engineers, those with ‘on the job’ experience working with a suitably qualified engineer can gain entry as a Category 2 candidate.

While we would recommend that all candidates make use of the training, a candidate can progress direct to the assessment stage without the training. The assessment stage cannot be by-passed as the candidate must be assessed on his knowledge and competence if he is to gain the recognised qualification.

To work with natural gas in a domestic environment the candidate will require to obtain CCN1 as the core qualification. After this he can then progress to obtaining qualification on a range of appliances to meet their individual requirements.

The process for training and assessment is similar for those wishing to work on commercial equipment with the core qualification being COCN1. Where commercial catering appliances are involved then the candidate will require to attain the CCCN1 qualification.

Training and assessment is also offered in Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG), the candidate first obtaining CONGLP1/PD to work on LPG equipment in Permanent Dwellings before gaining further qualifications on appliances to meet their individual needs.

Gas Certification Company Limited also offers training and assessment on Meters and Emergency Service Providers, the core qualifications being CMA1 and CESP1 respectively.

Limited Scope Candidates

Candidates can achieve CORGI registration to carry out work in a restricted, or limited number of areas

NICEIC

Gas Certification Company Limited has appointed NICEIC as its regulator.

NICEIC are a national body that set out the rules and standards to which their appointed training centres work to.

On successful completion of an Assessment (and payment in full of all fees due) the candidates papers are passed to NICEIC who check and confirm that the correct procedures have been carried out and then pass the information to CORGI for registering in their records

Oil Firing Technical Association (OFTEC)

Heating engineers wishing to work with oil fired systems must obtain the qualifications necessary for registration with OFTEC. Gas Certification Company offers the relevant Training and Assessment to candidates, new to the industry as well as to those with experience.

Non qualification courses for tradesmen and engineers

In addition to the courses offered for registration with CORGI or OFTEC, Gas Certification offer a number of courses that carry no formal qualification but are of value to those working in the industry who wish to expand their skills and knowledge. In the plumbing field training is offered to heating engineers wishing to work with Domestic Unvented Hot Water Systems. A further range of courses covering the electrical components of heating systems are being introduced.

Gas Awareness for Staff

The courses have been created for technical staff, not necessarily with knowledge of Gas Engineering, and non technical members of staff who deal with enquiries relating to gas during the normal course of their work. Particularly useful to Landlords and the staff of Housing Associations and Local Authorities, the courses are designed to educate the candidates in the safety requirements of dealing with gas. Essential for those handling enquiries from tenants and other employees the courses will provide them with the knowledge to recognise potential dangers and respond appropriately.
