Training & Assessment Leading to CORGI registration
The training part of the courses is styled as refresher training and is therefore geared towards those with experience in the gas industry. This does not mean that it is only suitable for time served engineers, those with ‘on the job’ experience working with a suitably qualified engineer can gain entry as a Category 2 candidate.
While we would recommend that all candidates make use of the training, a candidate can progress direct to the assessment stage without the training. The assessment stage cannot be by-passed as the candidate must be assessed on his knowledge and competence if he is to gain the recognised qualification.
To work with natural gas in a domestic environment the candidate will require to obtain CCN1 as the core qualification. After this he can then progress to obtaining qualification on a range of appliances to meet their individual requirements.
The process for training and assessment is similar for those wishing to work on commercial equipment with the core qualification being COCN1. Where commercial catering appliances are involved then the candidate will require to attain the CCCN1 qualification.
Training and assessment is also offered in Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG), the candidate first obtaining CONGLP1/PD to work on LPG equipment in Permanent Dwellings before gaining further qualifications on appliances to meet their individual needs.
Gas Certification Company Limited also offers training and assessment on Meters and Emergency Service Providers, the core qualifications being CMA1 and CESP1 respectively.
